Several years ago I spent the night
with a friend of mine while her son visited with her ex
husband in another town. I slept on the couch in the living
room and sometime around three o'clock in the morning I
got up and went to the restroom. When I came back to the
living room and sat down on the sofa I saw this man sitting
across the room from me in a recliner/rocking chair that
my friends brother had given to her.
The man appeared to be in his mid to late fifties with black hair and was wearing a red-checked flannel shirt and blue jeans which he had rolled up one roll at his ankles and was also wearing unlaced black shoes without socks. But curiously enough, he was drinking out of a tall Budweiser can of beer which he would take a sip then sit the can on the floor at his feet. He did that a few times then tilted the can towards me as though he was offering me a sip of beer. He was also smoking so much that the cigarette smoke had completely filled the room. A small round red light also appeared at his left elbow.
When I told my friend about this, she thought I had lost
my mind and needless to say had a few jokes at my expense.
However, she changed her tune after she told her brother
about what I had seen that night. He then told her that
the chair had in fact, once belonged to his deceased father-in-law
who had died from lung cancer, was an alcoholic and his
favorite drink was Budweiser beer straight from the can.
He also loved to wear red checked flannel shirts, never
wore socks or tied his shoes and kept his blue jeans rolled
up at the bottom one roll!!!
